Welcome to the Central West Lachlan Landcare Website. CWLL was formally known as Parkes and Districts Landcare and we are currently in a transition process with our name. This website has been developed to provide access to news and data relating to landcare activities in the Central West and Lachlan area and also in a broader contex. The activities of Landcare are the result of volunteers that have a desire to maintain and improve their environment-promoting natural resource management and sustainable farming practices. Landcare Projects Officer Position
Central West Lachlan Landcare, a community based Natural Resource Management organisation has a vacancy for a part time Projects Officer. This role is responsible for project identification and development, securing funding, project management and reporting as well as supporting and assisting members of our organisation. In addition the Project Officer will be involved with the identification of, and liaison with other organisations such as schools, government bodies, council and other NRM groups involved with environmental and educational programs.

Lachlan River Carp Cleanup @ Welcome Weir - Parkes
On Friday, 11 November, between 3pm - 8pm, Parkes and Districts Landcare held the Carp Cleanup at Welcome Weir. Parkes locals had the chance to show off their fishing prowess at the Clean Up A Lachlan Carp Day. It was fantastic to have children making up half of the 80 entrants spending the afternoon fishing in the peaceful, shady surrounds at Welcome Weir vying to be champion angler.
As well as the fishing competition, the NSW Department of Fisheries had their fish van, with live fish on display. Keith Bell from K&R Fisheries also held carp cooking demonstrations so that everyone had the chance to taste carp cooked the way it should be. When they weren’t fishing, children had the opportunity to get involved in craft activities and face painting.

2011 NSW Landcare Catchment Management Forum
The 2011 NSW Landcare Catchment Management Forum, was held in Parkes from 5 - 7 September 2011, and offered a dynamic program of events, including field trips, workshops, networking functions and presentations from a huge line up of cutting edge speakers and included the NSW State Landcare Awards Dinner.
The Forum would not have been possible without the sponsorship and support of the Lachlan Catchment Management Authority (CMA). The principal sponsor has provided support to the 2011 NSW Landcare and Catchment Management Forum and Parkes & Districts Landcare, including employee resources on the Forum Steering committee, co-ordinating the Field Trips, facilitating Kids Landcare Carnival and monitoring registrations.

2011 NSW Landcare & Catchment Management Forum
The 2011 NSW Landcare and Catchment Management
Forum will be held in the progressive regional centre of
Parkes, well known for its diversity in industry and
agriculture as well as for the adoption of sustainable
natural resource management practices.
The forum will address a variety of environmental issues
facing landholders, government and industry proponents,
education institutions and urban communities. It
represents a must attend for practitioners across all of
these sectors and will provide a forum for extensive
interaction.
The forum will offer presentations, field trips, discussions
and case studies with the aim of building knowledge and
partnerships in the Landcare and Catchment Management
community and to create a way forward.
The theme ‘Thinking Differently’ will underpin conference
sessions, highlighting the fact that the natural resource
management world is changing and the time for action is
now.

WHATS HAPPENING IN LANDCARE WORLD
2011/12 Community Action Grants Round Announced
Community groups around Australia can now apply for small grants to help fund local environmental and sustainable agriculture projects. Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Dr Mike Kelly, today announced that $5 million will be available through the 2011-12 Community Action Grants round.
Grants of between $5,000 and $20,000 are available to help local community groups undertake activities such as planting trees, revegetating landscapes, rehabilitating dunes, removing weeds, controlling pests, holding field days, recording traditional ecological knowledge and improving sustainable land management practices. Community Action Grants are part of the Australian Government‟s Caring for our Country initiative.
Applications for the 2011-12 Community Action Grants will close Monday 1 August 2011. More information on Caring for our Country and Community Action Grants, including how to apply, is available at www.nrm.gov.au or by calling 1800 552 008.
